You’d think people would be smart enough not to stage mock assassinations at political events, especially so soon after the shootings in El Paso and Dayton.
However, it happened at a fundraiser for Illinois state Sen. Martin Sandoval (D) over the weekend.
Photos taken at the event show someone wearing a Donald Trump mask being gunned down.
“The incident that took place is unacceptable. I don't condone violence toward the President or anyone else. I apologize that something like this happened at my event,” Sandoval told

.
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker (D) also criticized the mock assassination.
“As our nation grapples with the epidemic of gun violence, purposely pointing a fake gun at anyone is insensitive and wrong,” Pritzker said Saturday night. “I condemn actions like the ones displayed in the pictures because they lack the civility our politics demands.”
