Media critical of decision not to visit border

by Greg Belfrage

Is the mainstream news media's love affair with President Obama beginning to wane?

Probably not, but MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell has been unusually critical this week of the administration. She has sharp criticism for the president's decision not to visit the border while on a fundraising trip to Texas.

Mitchell yesterday asked her panelists, "Why have they (the White House) got their feet in cement?"

Earlier this week, Mitchell interviewed Democratic Representative Henry Cuellar of Texas about the border crisis.

"Are we seeing a pattern here with the adminstration?" Mitchell asked. "A White House that was late to the game on the fixes to Obamacare, didn't see the computer problems, the website problems coming. Late to the game on the VA problem. It was a continuous problem that people were warning about, but it didn't get to the president. Is the White House too insular? Is Cabinet government not working? What is going on here?"

Later in the interview, Mitchell showed footage of President Obama playing pool and drinking beer with Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper. She wondered aloud what the adminstration was thinking by arranging the photo op.

Cuellar pounced on the administration.

"When I saw that, it just really floored me," Cuellar said, "because if he's saying he's too busy to go down to the border, but you have time to drink a beer, play pool... the optics, just the appearance means that he's not paying attention to this humanitarian crisis."

Did I mention that Cuellar is a Democrat?
