Impeachment is a waste of time

by Greg Belfrage

Delegates at the South Dakota Republican Party's recent convention passed resolution calling for President Obama's impeachment.

William Douglas in the McClatchy Washington Bureau reports that there are a growing number of voices on the right who favor impeachment.

However, Douglas says there are many on the right who feel impeachment isn't practical.

I'm among those in the GOP who think impeachment is a waste of time and effort.

If House Republicans impeach the president, the Senate will never convict him.

There also isn't public support for the impeachment of President Obama. Republicans would lose the public relations battle over the issue and likely wind up losing seats in the mid-term elections.

President Obama's favorability ratings continue to plummet.

A Quinnipiac Universitypoll last week listed Obama as the worst president since World War Two. A recent Fox News poll found Obama is out of step with the public on illegal immigration.

The U.S. Supreme Court has recently handed the president several political losses. The high court ruled that he exceeded his authority by granting certain recess appointments. They also struck down the contraception mandate in the Affordable Care Act for some employers.

Republicans need to continue hammering President Obama on these issues where he is out of step with the mainstream and the courts in hopes of winning this November.
