Criticism of Rounds ad is silly and trivial

by Greg Belfrage

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mike Rounds is under fire for a new television ad.

The Argus Leader reports that one of the latest ads for Mike Rounds used stock footage from outside South Dakota.

News of the Rounds ad appeared at Roll Call and that sparked criticism from Larry Rhoden. The Union Center rancher is also running for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination. Rhoden implied that Rounds wouldn't have used the footage if he were proud of South Dakota.

Yawn.

My response to the entire controversy is one of total apathy.

There are so many valid issues on which conservatives can criticize Rounds and his record that this borders on childish.

Political insiders love this kind of stuff. But those in the everyday world just don't care.

I'm worried about the skyrocketing cost of health insurance for my family. I'm worried about the country's high unemployment rate. I'm concerned about the effect of federal regulation on business owners and consumer prices.

I'm sick of politicians who take the easy bait when they ought to be selling their ideas and explaining how their policies would improve quality of life.
