New Safety Concerns for Parents Who Use Johnson & Johnson Products

by Corey Carter

This may not be NEW news (posted first on THIS blog on August 15th), but it's NEW to me.  Having three small kids this is kind-of scary.

Today, the personal care giant announced that it would voluntarily (after consistent pressure from the public and groups like EWG) remove hidden formaldehyde from their baby products like baby shampoo and baby washes.  Don’t see formaldehyde listed on the back of your bottle of “no more tears” shampoo?  Formaldehyde is “hidden” in these products in ingredient names like “DMDM hydantoin“, and “1,4 dioxane” (which is “hidden” in listed ingredients like “fragrance”.  It’s all a big fun game, you see.).

One of the world’s largest producers of personal care products, Johnson & Johnson has vowed to remove many chemicals from its baby products.

The other side of this is that Johnson & Johnson have probably been doing this for YEARS and how much of an effect has it had?  There may be some facts out there that could be attributed to this, but I'm guessing there isn't anything concrete.

So we should buy organic shampoo and baby wash?  Maybe.

Are any of us chemical engineers?  Most - no.

Do we REALLY know what is an ANY product that we buy for ourselves?  Our children?

I wish we knew exactly what was the healthiest choice for ourselves and our children.  There are great resources that are out there that certainly help us to make the best decisions on all the products we buy, but the one resource that ALL parents are short on is...

Who has TIME to do the research for all of these products?

We should probably make time....
