OK, I think it's safe to go out on a limb and confess I'm no longer what would be considered "young" any longer. I'm not old - yet; but I have come to grips with the fact that I'm no longer a young man.
That being said, I am in the midst of something new that for several days has had me a little perplexed.
I've been running more and more as you've been reading on these Health and Fitness BLOG posts. Up until this past week, it was without incident. But on Tuesday I was running along the Lake Walk when, in about eight strides, I went from comfort to searing, burning pain shooting into my left hip.
I actually did stop and look, as I thought to myself I might have been shot - it hurt that much.
After limping back to my car and heading home, I contacted a Trainer friend of mine and she reminded me I was forgetting a key element that many runners neglect.
I wasn't rolling out my upper legs ahead of the run, and I wasn't stretching out my Hip-Flexers - the area where the leg and hip join up. This 5 minutes of prep will take care of several days of pain when executed properly.
